iPad Backup & Restore

When you are issued with a new iPad, the easiest way to set up your new iPad is to backup your current iPad, then restore the backup to your new iPad.

Be aware that some passwords and downloaded content will not restore from backup.

As an example, the Bookshelf App will restore from backup, but the password and downloaded books will not, you will have to enter your password, then download your books.

Ensure you know all of your passwords before you set up your new iPad.
PREREQUISITE - Install iTunes on your Laptop (preinstalled on MacBooks)

​IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ

Apple ID, iTunes and iCloud are all the same username and password. This document refers to all 3 to simplify what is displayed in the images.

Step 1 - Remove the passcode from your iPad
  1. Open Settings
  2. Scroll down to Passcode
  3. Touch Turn Passcode Off
  4. ​Enter your passcode to confirm

​Step 2 - Turn off "Find my iPad"
  1. Open Settings
  2. ​Scroll down to iCloud
  3. Touch Find My iPad
  4. Touch the green toggle swich to turn off, enter your iCloud password to confirm
Step 3 - Backup your iPad
  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Connect your iPad to your Laptop/MacBook with the USB cable (the cable connected to the Power Adaptor).
  3. Click on the iPad icon in the iTunes window (top left).
  4. In the Summary window, click on Back Up Now under the Manually Back Up and Restore column.
  5. The backup process will run - be patient, time depends on how many Apps and files/photos you have.
  6. Disconnect your iPad when complete.
